How to Spend Your Runes Wisely in Elden Ring
Runes are the game’s primary currency and can be used for everything from upgrading weapons and gear to leveling up character stats. Furthermore, they’re necessary for accessing certain areas and bosses in DLC that require multiple Runes in order to be defeated.
There are a few steps players can take to quickly collect elden ring runes. This article will highlight the optimal locations for early and mid-game farming as well as ways of efficiently farming Runes late game.
Sites of Grace
Sites of Grace in Elden Ring serve as checkpoints, providing quick travel between locations and replenishing flasks or sorting items quickly. Furthermore, these shrines act as leveling hubs allowing players to allocate points into attributes for an agreed upon amount of Runes.
These points don’t make you stronger directly, but rather allow you to tailor your character and boost stats that would otherwise be difficult to increase through combat alone. Choose to increase HP, Strength, Magic or Defense accordingly.
Leveling at a Site of Grace can be likened to Dark Souls’ bonfire mechanic, and should be done frequently to avoid being killed by tree sentinels as soon as you forget to level up!
Level Up
Elden Ring stands apart from previous FromSoftware games by offering players an Attributes system where they can level up their Attributes – known as Levels – which define strengths and weaknesses of characters and can be increased via elden ring runes, the equivalent of EXP in this game. Elden ring runes can be gained by defeating enemies but will drop when death occurs and may never return until visited a Site of Grace to meet up with Melina or her spectral steed, Torrent.
As soon as they meet up with Melina at the Gatefront Ruins Site of Grace, players can select “Level Up” from her menu to spend their Runes and increase their level and Attribute bonuses – Vigor improving HP, Endurance improving stamina, Intelligence improving spells and Faith increasing maximum FP (mana). Please note that at first, leveling up attributes may seem permanent but later in the game Larval Tears may allow redistributing previously assigned attribute points more freely.
Melina
One of the key aspects of Elden Ring is how it levels your character. Beating enemies will earn you various amounts of Runes which can then be spent to boost individual Attributes on your character.
Melina is an intriguing character. While not meeting the classic definition of a Finger Maiden, she still offers to play that role for you. Melina doesn’t exist as an entity in herself but is just an extension or vessel for Miquella herself.
Melina’s accord offers you the ability to level up at any Site of Grace and summon her spectral steed Torrent; additionally, she requests that you bring her to Erdtree where her true purpose in this world becomes more evident.
Bosses
Elden Ring requires much time and concentration in order to understand its intricate systems, just as Dark Souls and Bloodborne do. While its opaque nature can be enjoyable, overconfidence will often end your run quickly as its designers love to unleash unexpected enemies when needed most. Rushing into boss fights unprepared with low-grade gear or an inferior build can quickly prove fatal as its designers love springing surprises upon players when least expected!
As is often the case in Elden Ring, players can mitigate some of its unexpected challenges with Great Runes. By activating them early and unlocking powerful new abilities they increase their chance of survival – though unfortunately these items don’t explain themselves within the game – yet can sometimes be hard to locate at first. This guide will walk you through how to obtain and activate Great Runes within Elden Ring.
Crafting
Elden Ring offers you an efficient method for quickly leveling up. Killing enemies who drop plenty of runes will yield not just one rune per kill, but more as your kill count rises. As soon as one dies, more will appear – which means more money for upgrades!
Unfortunately, your elden ring runes can easily be stolen by an array of tricky enemies; and game designers like to surprise players with boss fights similar to how stocks work in real life. Playing on margin encourages spending instead of saving, which can be disastrously mistaken.
You can acquire items that can significantly increase the amount of runes gained from killing monsters, such as the Golden Scarab Talisman. Furthermore, certain locations and enemies offer steady supplies of runes with minimal investment, like Five Troll Warriors at Warmaster’s Shack.
